The tragedy is still reeling in all our minds. I don't need to go into details. My heart goes out to everyone at Virginia Tech.

Please, people of the world. The shooter was Asian. DO NOT VILIFY US. We are not all killers. As a matter of fact, the Asian people as a whole are some the quietest, most polite, happy people in the world.

There will (and already is) backlash from a lot of close-minded, selfish, racist people who are giving dirty looks, glares, and disparaging words to my fellow Asian friends. They do not deserve those looks. They deserve support and caring, just like other human beings deserve.

Please. Treat everyone with respect. The killer had his reasons. Being Asian wasn't one of them.

Just because we can "do without" those people doesn't mean they won't do it. It's already starting, and the new bandwagon is to be suspicious of "those Koreans" just because they're Korean.

Add to that the fact that most non-Asians have trouble distinguishing between a Korean, Chinese, and Japanese person; and you get a nasty little puzzle.

Is Debbie Schlussel one of those types? Just saw something on Olbermann that made me check out her blog, and she's already begun the smear-job. Apparently, because the shooter was referred to as "Asian", and because Virginia Tech has a number of Pakistani Muslims, that meant Cho Seung-Hui was, at the time, a Muslim terrorist from Pakistan. Even though she edited the post to add that the shooter was Chinese ("Lovely. Yet another reason to stop letting in so many foreign students."), then corrected it to South Korean... methinks she still needs a map of the world to see that Asia extends beyond the Middle East.

Between that, and the usual gang of trolls (Westboro Baptist Church, Jack Thompson), this pretty much convinced me that nothing's sacred any more. I guess it's too much to ask for some time to mourn the dead.

And as for Cho's nationality, pretty much anyone who bothers to take two minutes to read up on his plays, note, etc. could see he was a sick puppy, regardless of his heritage. Here's hoping people can actually separate the person from his heritage and be respectful.

I'm surprised people are doing that. Well, I guess I'm not that surprised, but it hadn't even crossed my mind.

Granted, since its happened I've been on red alert myself. So far teaching evolution in schools, video games, and loner/nerds in general have been blamed for this. *sigh* It's going to be post-Columbine all over again.

Huh. And before anyone gets up and huffies at me, I honest to God have no sense of A) race, B) nationality or C) accent (as long as nobody reminds repeating some words).
